Zammit, Raniero (23.4.26-)Missionary and authorBorn in Sliema, Zammit studied at the Friars Minor secondary school, Valletta and the Capuchin seminary in Floriana. He joined the Capuchin Order in 1944 and was ordained priest in 1952. In 1954 he joined the Capuchin mission at Jhansi, India and was elected superior for four consecutive terms. He also served for 10 years in the archdiocese of Bhopal, India and was parish priest of Bhopal Cathedral and vicar-general to the archbishop. In 1977 Zammit spent a year in Benghazi and Tobruk working among Catholic foreign workers. In 1979 he served as chaplain of several government hospitals. He was appointed provincial secretary (1989-92), and missionary secretary (1992-) and is at present the editor of Dawl Frankiskan, the Capuchin monthly. In 1992 he was appointed chaplain of the Malta Police Corps with the rank of superintendent. Zammit co-authored 70 Sena ta' Storja b;Rizq il-Muzika u I-Kultura (1993) with Winston L. Zammit and edited II-Madonna u Tas-Sliema (1988). For the last 10 years, he has edited Lehen !]-Banda Cittadina Sliema, a yearly publication by the Sliema Band Club.
