Zammit, Leonard (17.12.1880-31.10.1949)Franciscan ScholarBorn at Luqa Zammit entered the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor in 1895 and studied at the Franciscan seminary in Malta, philosophy in Pescia, and theology in Rome. He was ordained priest in Rome in 1904. Zammit graduated in phiolophy in 1904 and lectured in philosophy and humanities for several years. Zammit worked among Maltese migrants in Cairo and Suez (1922-31). Co-founder of the Franciscan monthly L-Anglu tal-Paci (1916), Zammit was a promoter of the Maltese language and was one of the first members of the Ghaqda Kittieba tal-Malti Source: Maltese Biographies of the Twentieth Century (1997), editors Michael J.
