Vella, Victor (13.4.1939-)

Born in Mellieha, Vella taught English at the Secondary Technical School, Naxxar.

In 1968 he emigrated to Australia where he taught English in Australian high schools. He was Secretary of the Maltese Welfare association, later called the La Valette Social Centre and became very involved in the social and educational fields.

Vella interested himself in the preservation of the native language and culture among the Maltese of Australia. He has taught Maltese in various schools and colleges and has written two books in Maltese: Fis-Setah ghar-Rwieh, a collection of dialogues between two Maltese-Australian women, and Gheruq, a course book for the teaching of Maltese as a second language.
