Vella, Joseph (15.9.1925-)

Founder, Maltese Settlers of Australia

Born at Paola, Vella was educated at the Dockyard School. He emigrated to Australia in 1950.

In Australia Vella was Treasurer of the Maltese Settlers Association of Australia (1950-54) - founder and Secretary of the Maltese Settlers of Australia (Victoria Branch) (1954-60) - secretary, Malta Star of the Sea Association of Victoria (1959-76) - Treasurer and co-ordinator of Western Region Maltese Community Council of Victoria (1976) - and President of the West Sunshine Maltese Senior Citizens (1982-). He is also the founder of Maltese Settlers Association of Australia Drama Group.

Vella is a regular contributor to Maltese programmes on 3CR (1988-93) and 3WRB (1993-). He is married to Emily Andrew.
