Piscopo Justin (1898-1989)BusinessmanMr Piscopo left Malta for the USA in 1920s. and settled in New York. He was a carpenter by trade, and on his arrival he started by renovating and selling small apartments on 86th Street. By 1935 he was already in the hotel business. The first hotel he owned was the Washington-Jefferson Hotel on 51st Street close to Madison Square Garden. From there his business flourished so that he owned several real estate holdings in many states. He was a patriotic American. He was a member of the Bronx Power Squadron for over 50 years, and held the Treasurer's job for almost 20 years. Mr Piscopo was a religious man a devotee of Saint Jude. He gave generously of is money and time to the church and charitable organizations. He was one of the founders of the Committee for Maltese Charities to help the less fortunate Maltese. He set up scholarships through the Knights of St Columbus, of which Order he was a member. He was also Member of the Knights of Malta.
