Parnis, Roger Oscar (6.10.1923-2.9.1993)SurgeonParnis was born in Sliema and studied at the Lyceum and the RUM from where he graduated B.Sc. (1944) and MD (1946). He also attended Guy's Hospital Medical School from where he obtained FRCS in 1952 and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine from where he obtained his D.T.M. & IL in 1960. Parnis was appointed demonstrator in surgery,(1948-49) and examiner in surgery (1955 and 1964) at the RUM. Parnis was then appointed surgical registrar at Hitchin Hospital (1952-54),, senior surgical specialist at Western Nigeria, and associate lecturer in surgery at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, (1967-69) Between 1971 and 1977 Parnis served as surgeon at the department of health and lecturer in surgery. He then emigrated to Australia where he was appointed specialist surgeon at Iverell, District Hospital in 1979. Parnis published Exploring Gozo, Exploring Malta, and Of Wines and Spirits, He married Anne Caruana Galizia and they had two sons, Francis and Eric, and two daughters, Clare and Catherine.
