Micallef, Joseph S. (19.10.1933-)

Born in Valletta, Micallef was educated at the Lyceum and emigrated to the United States, where he attended the University of St Thomas, St Paul Minnesota (1956-58) and graduated BA. He furthered his studies at University of Minnesota Law School (1958-59) and later at William Mitchell College of Law, Minnesota (1959-62), graduated LL.B. and J.D. in 1962. Between 1952 and 1962 he served in the US Air Force and Reserves, resigned with the rank of Captain in 1967.

Micallef's professional career started in 1961 as Fiduciary Counselling, Inc. at St Paul's Minnesota and was president, treasurer, director (1973-95), and consultant, director (1996-). Since 1962 Micallef served with the American Bar Association, Chicago and Minnesota Bar Association, Minnesota, was secretary and treasurer Rock Island Co., Minnesota (1971-95)< director, Piasecki Aircraft Corporation, Philadelphia (1974-), trustree, Great Northerm Iron Ore Properties, St Paul Minnesota (1976-) and director, First Trust Company, St Paul, Minnesota (1982-96).

Since 1972, Micallef's civic and community service was very hectic and he served in various posts. Honorary Consul General of Malta for over thirty years, Chev. Micallef served as lawyer, business and foundation executive, civic leader, manager of major financial entities, investments and charitable foundations. In 1972 Micallef arranged for the formal agreement between the Cathedral Chapter and the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library at St John's University, Collegeville, Minnesota, and provided the funding from various charitable sources for the on-going project of microfilming the ecclesiastical collections at the Cathedral Museum and other related institution in Malta. In 1973 he was instrumenal in the establishment of the Malta Study Centre of the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library at Saint John's university, Collegville, Minnesota, and in 1989 he arranged for the formal agreement between the Government of Malta and the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library, which provided the funding from various charitable sources for the five-year project to microfilm the archives of the Order of St John which are preserved at the National Library in Valletta.

Micallef is member of the St Paul Athletic Club, the Serra Club, the Gyro Club, the Alpha Kappa Psi, the Delta Theta Phi Fraternity (Law), and the American Bar Association of Minnesota.

Micallef married Jane M. Youngers in 1959 and they have four children, Lisa, Maura (Fisk), Sara (Hulse), Amy, and Joseph Jr.
