Mangion, Noel (13.1.1932-)Choir masterMangion was born in Tripoli, Libya and received his secondary education with the Christian Brothers of De La Salle College, Tripoli. He graduated in music after being tutored by the Franciscan Fathers. Between 1946 and 1956 Mangion conducted the first Maltese choir in Tripoli. In 1956 he emigrated to Australia and continued his career there. For several years he was organist at St Augustine Parish in Yarraville where he conducted the Maltese, Australian, Polish, and Italian choirs, and for ten years he was also choirmaster for the St Gaetan Maltese choir in Victoria. In 1984 Mangion formed the Maltese Choir of Victoria, which he still conducts and he also performs regularly at every Maltese function. His choir was appointed the official choir during the official visits of Prime Minister Fenech Adami and President Tabone in Australia. In 1994 Mangion received the Manoel De Vilhena Award.
