Magro, Paschal (22-10.1938-)

Franciscan scholar

Magro was born at St Paul's Bay and received his education at St Francis colleges at Rabat, Victoria, and Valletta.

Magro joined the Franciscan Conventuals and pursued his studies at the Gregorian University in Rome and at the Pontificia Facolta Teologica Seraphicum. He graduated Ph.B. (1959), Ph.Lic. 1965 ),S.Th. B - (1961), and S.Th.Lic Lic. (1963).He was ordained priest in February 1963. He also holds a diploma in Christian archaeology from the Pontiflcio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana of Rome (1984).

Between 1965 and 1995, Magro lectured in philosophy and theology and in Franciscan art heritage as visiting lecturer in the colleges f higher studies of' the Franciscan Order in Malta, Assisi, Rome, Granby (USA), the Phillipines, India, Australia, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan. He was also secretary general of the Pontificia Facolta' Teologia Seraphicum in Rome (1982-90), and directorof the Museo Tesoro della Basilica di San Francesco in Assisi (since 1990).

Author of a number of articles on Franciscan history and iconography in various publications including archiviurn Franciscanurn and L'Osseratore Romano, Magro is also the author of Assisi, Storia-Arte-Spiritualita' (Assisi, 1978), Francesco d'Assisi. La coresponsabilita' delta costruzione de] Regno (Roma, 1981), II Sepolcro di San Fracesco. La celebrazione del Santo negi, affreschi della Chiesa inferiore (Assisi, 1982), La Basilica Sepolcrale di San Francesco in Assisi.
