Grech, Victor (1942-)Painter and SculptorBorn in Gozo, he migrated to Australia aged 37. He studied at the Teacher's College (Ta' Giorni) and taught at various schools in Malta. He studied art at the Government School in Msida and clay modelling at STS (Paola) and was a teacher of art at the Lyceum. After 20 years teaching in Malta Mr Grech emigrated to Australia in 1979 and started teaching art at the Catholic school in Bankstown. He has been teaching art now for 21 years. He exhibited his work at several exhibitions including that of "Maltese Talents Abroad" at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta, in Jan/Feb 2000. He designed the bronze blocks which are attached to the walls of the monument at Pendle Hill NSW, and on which there is sculpted the history of emigration to Australia. He Graduated B.A.(Hons) from the University of London in 1976. Victor Grech has had a long association with the Maltese Community in NSW, as member of the theatrical group "Cittadini", the Maltese Cultural Group of NSW, and as assistant secretary of the Maltese Community Council of NSW. He was a promising soccer player and played as goalkeeper with Salesian Youths, Victoria Hotspurs and Wanderers. He is married to Marlene.
