Grech, Joe Louis (17.2.1927-)PathologistBorn in Floriana, Grech graduated in medicine from the RUM in 1952. In 1956 he was appointed temporary pathologist at St Luke's Hospital and in 1959 he was awarded a scholarship to proceed to the Postgraduate Medical School in London. In 1960 Grech obtained a diploma in clinical pathology and was appointed pathologist at St Luke's Hospital. He later obtained a diploma in medical jurisprudence and was a founder member of the College of Pathologists London, being elected fellow 10 years later. He also served as lecturer in forensic medicine at the UM and as medico-legal expert at the law courts. 1977 Grech was dismissed from his Post in 1197 as a result of the trade union dispute and in 1980 left for Australia. He was elected fellow of the College of Royal Pathologists of Australia in 1984. He returned to Malta in 198'7, taking up his post of lecturer at the UM and has been in charge of the pathology service of the Malta University Services Ltd. and later assistant director of the Institute of Forensic Studies. Grech is a member of several scientific associations and has contributed to a number of scientific journals. He has served as vice-president to the MAM and president to the Malta Federation of Professional Bodies. He served as member of the Medical Council for several years. In 1989 he was appointed chairman of the National Bioethics Consultative Committee. In 1992 he published L-Injinieri tal-Hajja, from the original in Italian.
