Gatt, John Vincent (30.3.1925-)Jesuit missionaryBorn in Balzan, Garr studied at St Edward's College and the RUM from where he graduated B.Sc. (1946). He joined the Royal Engineers where he served from 1942 to 1944. In August 1946 he joined the Society of Jesus and studied at Heythrop College, Oxford where he obtained his Lic.Phil. (1951). At his own request he was sent to India in 1954 and followed theological studies at St Mary's College, Kurseong, from where he graduated in sacred theology (S.Th.Lic.) in 1957. From the Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute of Bombay, Garr obtained a licentiate in civil and sanitary engineering (L.C & S.E.) in 1963. Gatt was ordained priest at Kurseong in 1956 and worked in the Santal Missions where he served as a teacher, builder and in local parishes. In 1965 Gatt returned to Malta and was appointed head of the mathematics department at St Aloysius College (1966-92). Since 1994 he has been the archivist of the Maltese Jesuit province.
