Gatt, Edgar Anthony J. (8.6.1922-)Doctor and photographerBorn in Hamrun, Gatt received his education at the Lyceum and the RUM, graduating Ph.C. (1945) and MD (1949). After practising his profession in Malta, Gatt was appointed anaesthetist at Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia in 1952. He returned from Lusaka in 1964 but emigrated to Australia in 1966. Between 1966 and 1990 Gatt practised as general practitioner and anaesthetist in Victoria, Australia. He also served as surgeon with the nursing division of St John Ambulance. A keen photographer, Gatt was president, Victoria Association of Photographic Societies, and president, Melbourne Camera Club (1994-95). He was also director, International Portfolios, Australian Photographic Society; editor, Newsbrief a newsletter of the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies: lecturer; and judge for national and international competitions. Gatt was honoured with State Service to the Australian Photographic Society) and Special Service to the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies. He participated in three exhibitions, namely Images of Malta and Australia, at Parkes, NSW; Flavours of the Mediterranean, at the Gallery of the Melbourne Camera Club; and Images of the Maltese Islands, at Sunshine, Victoria. In 1995 Gatt was awarded the Manoel Vilhena Award for his outstanding contributo the propagation of Maltese arts and culture in Australia. Gatt is married to Regina (Queenie) Gatt and they have three sons, Charles, Robert, and Raymond and a daughter, Rosemarie.
