Darmanin, Paolo (6.11.1940-)Bishop of Garissa in KenyaDarmanin was born at Zabbar. In October 1957 he joined the Maltese province of the Capuchin Friars and he made his solemn profession on 24 December 1961. After his ordination on 26 March 1966, he proceeded to Rome to pursue higher studies and he graduated in canon law from the Gregorian University and in moral theology from the Accademia Alfonsiaria. In May 1974 he was elected minister provincial of the Maltese province of the Capuchin Friars and re-elected in 1977. In 1981 he joined the Capuchin missionaries in the apostolic prefecture of Garissa in Kenya. On 3 February 1984, the Holy See elevated Garissa to the rank of a diocese and, on 25 March 1984, Pope John Paul II nominated Darmanin as its first bishop.
