Cuschieri, George A. (27.7.1943-)

Civil servant

Born in Sliema, Cuschieri was educated at St Joseph Technical Institute, Paola and the Lyceum. He joined the civil service in 1963 with the Planning Area Permits Board.

In 1968 Cuschieri served with the Malta Government Savings Bank as Executive Officer and later at the Treasury Department. In 1977 he was promoted Chief Cashier at the Works Department and in 1987 Public Relations Officer at the Ministry for the Development of Infrastructure and member of the Planning Area Permits Board representing the Minister for the Development of Infrastructure.

In 1989 Cuschieri joined the Foreign Service and was responsible for Malta's relations with Italy, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, and Portugal. In 1990 he was posted to the High Commission in London, and in September was appointed passport officer (1990-94). In 1994 Busuttil was appointed Malta Consul with jurisdiction over the state of New South Wales, Australia.

Cuschieri is married to Josephine Debono and they have two daughters, Ruth and Marcelle.
