Costa, Charles (17.10.1934-)

Businessman

Born in Birkirkara, Costa studied at St Aloysius College. In 1951, he emigrated to Detroit, where he worked on a variety of jobs until he set up his own successful business.

Costa, the founder of the Property Owners Association, has had a long career of community service spanning over 30 years. For a long time he has been very active in civic and community activities and was awarded presidential recognition for a national jobs programme. President Reagan wrote to thank him for his 'I Care America - Give Someone a Job Programme' which he founded. This programme involved job creation, particularly for migrant workers.

In 1988 Costa ran for mayor of Detroit, but came third. He is married and has six children.
