Busuttil, Anthony (30.12.1945-)Forensic pathologistBorn in Rabat, Busuttil was educated at St Aloysius College, and the RUM from where he graduated MD in 1965. After serving as resident house officer at St Luke's Hospital in 1967, Busuttil went to Scotland in 1969 and joined the Glasgow University's Pathology Department at the City's Western Infirmary. The following year he was appointed registrar and served as examiner in pathology for the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and London. Busuttil, who is an international expert in forensic pathology, was appointed to the Regius Chair of Forensic Medicine at Edinburgh University by Queen Elizabeth in 1987. From an early interest in the pathology of the ear, nose, and throat, his research has expanded to include gastroenterology, urology, and oncology. He conducted research in urological and intestinal malignancy and the pathology of male infertility. Busuttil was responsible for the pathological investigations into the Lockerbie disaster in which 270 people were killed when a Pan Am airliner exploded over Scottish village in December 1988; together with his team, he carried out a full examination and autopsies of the bodies.
