Borg, Victor George A.M., MQR, LL.B.(Melb), LL.M (Lond) (27.8.1941-)Lawyer, Chairman Maltese Community Council of Victoria Born in Gzira, Malta. His family emigrated to Australia on 20th May, 1955 when he was 14 years old. Mr Borg was educated at St Joseph's College, and the Lyceum College, Malta, and at the Marcelline and Taylors Colleges in Melbourne. He graduated Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Melbourne (1963), and was admitted to practice as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria (1964). He pursued post-graduate studies in Low in London (1965-1966) and graduated as Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of London, 1966. Currently he is Principal of the law-firm Victor Borg & Co., Barristers & Solicitors. He has held a number of honorary positions as follows: Honorary Consul for Republic of Malta, (since 1982); President of Maltese Community Council of Victoria Inc.; Immediate past Chairperson, Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria and presently a member of the Executive; Convenor of Immigration & Legal Issues Committee for Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria; Member of the Victorian Law Foundation; Member of Chief Justices Advisory Committee on Ethnic Issues (Family Court); Honorary Chairperson, Rosary Home Hostel for the Aged, (Dominican Sisters of Malta) Keilor Downs, Victoria; Honorary Board Member, St. Dominic's Hostel for the Aged, (Dominican Sisters of Malta) Blacktown, New South Wales and Director Western Health (Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown Hospitals) Mr Borg has held a number of positions in Victoria, as Member, Immigration Review Tribunal, Director, National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Director, Diabetes Australia (Victoria),and as Chairperson, Migrant Advisory Committee for Federal Department of Social Security & Employment and Education Training He has been involved in submissions and appearances at various Senate Committees ( including those relating to Needs of Ethnic Aged, Citizenship and Workplace Relations Bill 1996), as well as Federal Ministerial Consultations on Migrant Intake programs Mr Borg has published a number of papers including:"Migrants and the Criminal Justice System"; "Informed Consent - in relation to medical treatment of Non-English Speaking Background - The Right To Know" (Co-authored by Victor Borg and Carol Abela); "Ethnic Diversity and Children's Rights: Recognition of Culture (Family Court)" (Co-authored by Victor Borg and Carol Abela), and "Preservation of the Maltese Culture and Language in in the State of Victoria, Australia" Mr Borg has been elected Member of the Order of Australia (1982) and was awarded the Midalja Ghall-Qadi Tar-Repubblika on an honorary basis (1998).Mr Borg is married with 3 children
