Baumgart-Psayla, Romeo L, von (11.6.1916-)

Journalist

Born at Birkirkara Baumgart-Psayla was instrumental in the formation of the Malta Prospective Emigrants Organization under the auspices of the GWU in 1945. He emigrated to the USA in 1947, eventually becoming founder-director of Institute of Maltese-American Affairs and it, foreign subsidiaries. He was the editor and publisher of Malta Times of New Jersey; executive, director of The Malta Times Publishing Co.,Times Of Malta correspondent; and US representative of the Allied Malta Newspapers Ltd. Fosome years he was on the staff of 7he New York Times.

In 1954 Baumgart-Psayla became a American citizen. He had changed his name by court decree after marrying Adele von Baumgart in 1952. They have a son, Ludwig Wolfganag H. and a daughter, Helga Maria Louisa.

Before emigrating to the USA Baumgart Psayla had served with the RAF as photgrapher with the Reconnaissance. in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. He was awarded the, 1939-4S Star, the Defence Medal, the Africa Star, and the War Medal.

Baumgart-Psayla is a knight commander grace of the Sovereign Order of St John Jerusalem.
