Family Size in the Second Generation

The number of children in the average family of Maltese background youth is shown in figure 6.2. Almost half of the families interviewed have only two children, with a further one-third having only one child. These families are of course still young, and it is possible that this pattern might change somewhat over the next few years. However, in view of the average age of the population studied, it is considered unlikely that the pattern will change dramatically. In this respect, the relatively small size of the families of Maltese-born persons is comparable with similar tendencies in the rest of the population.
