It is to be noted also that from these estimates, there would be over 19,000 who would be currently doing their schooling and tertiary education. A survey carried out (April 1998) shows the age distribution of the Maltese-background persons belong to the second generation in Victoria (figure 6.1). Included in this graph are children arriving from Malta aged 10 years or less. These were included because, although they strictly speaking they belong to the first generation, they, however, are subject to schooling and other influences to almost the same degree as those born overseas.
