8.2 Age DistributionAbout 40% of Maltese aged were 70 years and older, and 30% of females and 26% of males were aged over 75 years. In view of the fact that the very old require far more services than those who are merely 60-65 age group, it is important to separate this group for the purposes of statistical analysis, a problem which is not addressed in census data and in most studies.
