5.6 Trade CertificateMuch more highly prized by the Maltese than academic education and university -qualifications is the possession of a trade certificate. In this area Maltese youths have done well, much better than the average Australian or most other ethnic groups. In the 1981 Census, up to 29% of Australian- born Maltese youths aged 20 - 24 had a trade certificate (compared with average Australian population of 22.7%). It is to be noted however that this is still considered to be a predominantly male domain with few females venturing into this area. Source: Maurice N.
