5.3 Malta in the 1980s

Of more direct relevance is whether the second generation Maltese born in Australia is comparable to the second generation born in Malta. Details may be found in Appendix 2, but in summary:

  1. Girls are more likely to be sent to Government secondary schools, while boys are more likely to be sent to private schools.
  2. Retention rates in Government secondary schools is ver y poor, while the retention rates in private schools is much higher.
  3. Technical education represents a relatively high propor ortion of students up to age 16 yrs. les equally represented as males. Education
  4. Tertiary education: females equally represented as males. Education is the largest Faculty at the University of Malta, making 56% of all students.
