Acquisition Of Maltese Citizenship Through Marriage - Q & A

Question No 24

I am a British citizen and I married a citizen of Malta in 1990. My husband and I separated after three (3) years of marriage. After a lapse of three years we patched up our differences and started living together once again and have now been living together for the past four years. As we have been married for ten years and lived together, in the aggregate, for seven years, am I eligible to apply for registration as a citizen of Malta?

Yes. As you do fulfil the requirements of the Maltese Citizenship Act as recently amended, namely, that you have been married for five years and you are living together once again, you are eligible to apply for registration as a citizen of Malta.
