Acquisition Of Maltese Citizenship Through Marriage - Q & A

Question No 22

I am a British citizen who has been residing in Malta for the last two years. Ten years ago, whilst living in the United Kingdom I married a citizen of Malta. Unfortunately our marriage was not a success and we divorced after six years of marriage. In view of the recent amendments to the Maltese Citizenship Act am I now entitled to apply for registration as a citizen of Malta?

The reply is in the negative. Once you are now divorced you no longer enjoy any rights under the Citizenship Act.
