What is my position under the recent legislation? Your situation has changed under the new legislation. In your case, you became a citizen of Malta on 21 September 1964. You "lost" Maltese citizenship on 21 September 1967 and retained British citizenship. You acquired also Australian citizenship in 1970. You have en emigrated for 32 years. As you, therefore, fulfil all the prerequisites the new Section 9 of the Maltese Citizenship Act, you have now required Maltese citizenship automatically. In your case you may now hold Multiple citizenship, that is, Maltese, British and Australian citizenships.
