Dual or Multiple Citizenship - Q & AQuestion No 13I am a citizen of Malta who was emigrated in Australia for four years. My daughter was born in that country during this period. As my wife wished to move where her sister was also emigrated, we moved to New Zealand, where we stayed for ten (10) years. Does my daughter, who is now 24 years old and, who holds Australian tizenship, qualify to hold dual citizenship? Answer Yes because she fulfils the requirements of the new section of the Maltese Citizenship Act, namely: - she became a citizen of Malta at birth;
- she acquired or retained the citizenship of another country; and
- she resided outside Malta for an aggregate period of at least six years.
She has, therefore, re-acquired Maltese citizenship automatically which she can retain together with her Australian citizenship.
