Order By The Minister Declaring A Person To Be No Longer An Exempt Person - Q & A

Question No 33

My neighbour's daughter has been arrested for drug trafficking and apparently she has been dealing in drugs for the last two years. She was born abroad, holds British citizenship and is now 19 years old. I have just heard that she is going to lose her exempt person status which she enjoys until her twenty-first birthday. Is there any truth in this rumour?

Yes there is. In accordance with section 4(2) of the Immigration Act, the Minister responsible for Immigration matters is empowered to declare such a person to be no longer an exempt person if the Minister is satisfied that it is not in the public interest for such a person to continue to merit such a right.
